May 2019
Dear Parents,
Just a few notices and dates for the diary
Infants to 2nd School Tours:
The Junior School Tour (Junior Infants – 2nd Classes) will be to Cavan Sports Centre on Thursday 6th June. The Cost for this tour is €15. Thank you all who have paid so far. This can be paid up until Tuesday 4th June as we need the final numbers for the bus by that date. The bus will be leaving at 9.25am sharp. Please note this tour will not be back for 2pm pickups. All pickups that day will be 3pm. The cost of the buses have been largely subsidised by The Parents Association. All children to wear PE gear and bring a packed lunch with a large/extra drink.
Senior School Tour:
The Senior School Tour to Tanagh Adventure Centre went extremely well. All the children had great fun doing orienteering, wall climbing, archery, the obstacle course and best of all, the mud slide! Pictures from the day are now up on the new school website.
St. Aidan’s Comprehensive G.A.A. Football Tournament: Well done to the ten boys and girls from 5th & 6th who participated in this year’s tournament. The team were unbeaten in the group games, winning two and drawing one to top the group and made it to the Division 1 Semi Finals. Unfortunately, we were drawn against a very strong Castletara side who went on to lift the cup. Well done to everyone for taking part.
CASE – Shared Education Programme (Peace IV): Children from 5th & 6th Class attended Ballyjamesduff Museum last Friday for their showcase day. It was an amazing day and the children did the school proud. It was very clear a huge effort was made and everyone who attended, including Minister Heather Humphreys, was very impressed. All the pictures from the day are on the school website. Thank you to all the parents who attended on the day.
Parents Association Mega Draw: The Parents Association launched the School Mega Draw last Thursday. Tickets are now on sale in the school or by contacting The Parents Association. There are some amazing prizes again this year. The draw will run from July 1st until December 1st. Tickets (€50) are on sale up to the last day in June only. No tickets will be sold after this. Please support this fundraiser as all the money raised will go to the school.
Basketball Coach: Carol will begin basketball lessons from Wednesday 5th June so please continue to wear PE gear every Wednesday. Tennis lessons finish on Wednesday 29th May.
Lego Club / Fun Day: ** Save the date**. The Parents Association will be running a Lego Club on Saturday 22nd June. More details of times and costs will follow.
Skipathon: This year we will be taking part in a Skipathon for The Irish Heart Foundation where students will take on some skipping challenges. Sponsorship cards have been sent home with all children and all proceeds will go to this worthy cause. We aim to do this around mid-June. (weather dependent)
Parent & Children Computer Classes: Learn about Internet Safety and learn all about the apps your children are using. Using Word, PowerPoint and Excel Spreadsheets will be taught. Some places still available. Please contact Aaron Hynes to find out more and to book a place. Tel: 086 2475876
Book Rental for September 2019: We are now taking payment for School Book Rental for the next school year. The rental price will remain the same: Infants to 2nd is €20 per child. 3rd-6th is €40 per child. This covers all text book rental, art supplies and photocopying. Payment instalments can be made to suit as always.
New Infants: The new infants for September 2019 will be attending our school for one hour on May 27th to meet their teacher and their new classmates. Details have been sent out.
Homework: For the month of June (again this year) we will be winding down the written homework to concentrate on English oral language and some mindfulness. A great website for guided mindfulness which we will be using in school is: https://www.otb.ie/weaving-well-being-mindfulness-script-guided-meditations Oral language activity sheets/tips will be sent home early next month.
School Reports: The end of year school reports will be sent home in the June. 6th Class reports will also go to their new secondary school.
School Calendar 19/20: Please find next year’s school calendar attached. We will be returning back to school on Wednesday 28th August 2019. This calendar will be available on the school website.
Contact Details: If you have changed your email or phone number please let the school know immediately in order to receive updates from the school. If by some reason you cannot get through to the school by phone, please email the school and we will get back to you a.s.a.p. (Please note change of our school email address above)
New School Website: After a lot of work, we have just launched our new school website: www.themodelschool.ie We aim to update this new website with newsletters, pictures and information as regularly as possible. Please take a minute to have a browse.
Polling Station/Elections: We are not a Polling Station so the school will be open on Friday 24th May as normal.
Bank Holiday Monday: The school will be closed on Monday June 3rd.
Class Teacher or Principal – If you have a question/issue about your child and want to discuss this, please speak to the class teacher first. If the issue persists, you can then request to meet/speak with Mr. Mc Hugo. This is a school procedure.
Thank you.
Kinds Regards,
Mr. Niall Mc Hugo
